The Shack Is Back: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Burgers

23rd April 2021

The Burger Shack is back and better than ever.

In honour of our Burger Shack relaunching in time for summer, we thought we’d share some facts about one of the world’s best loved foods that we bet you didn’t know!

If you, like us, can think of nothing better than sitting with your sleeves rolled up in a pub garden, burger in hand, whilst your favourite sauce dribbles down your chin, then make sure you take a look at our brand new Burger Shack menu – featuring a range of plant-based goodness, and the best of British meat – all cooked to perfection, of course, you won’t be able to beat it this summer.

 1. With a sandwich being a solid staple of most people’s lunch, you’ll be surprised to hear that 60% of sandwiches sold globally are actually burgers.

2. The name derives from the town of Hamburg in Germany, where the cut of beef called the Hamburg steak is from. This evolved into what we now know as a hamburger.

3. Burgers account for 71% of beef served in restaurants globally. Wow.

4. The first restaurant to offer a burger on its menu was in 1921. Exactly 100 years ago! Good planning or a lucky coincidence for the relaunch of our Burger Shack? You guess!

5. The weight of the largest burger ever was 5000lbs. Can you imagine how long it would take to eat that?

6.  There is a Hamburger Hall of Fame in Wisconsin, USA. Hopefully, some of our burgers will appear there soon, stay tuned..

7. Sonya Thomas holds the world record for eating a burger weighing 9 pounds in just 27 minutes.

8. In 2008 Burger King released a burger scented cologne called ‘Flame’. I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t a big hit.

9. Peta once offered the town of Hamburg, New York 15,000 dollars to change their name to Veggieburg.

10. One of the most expensive burgers ever sold was the FleurBurger500, which was made of black truffles, foie gras and Kobe beef, topped with aged gruyere cheese melted with steam from champagne poured on the hot griddle. The burger cost 5000 dollars, but don’t fear, ours are a little less pricey.
