Perfect Sundays at the Bear in Cobham

20th September 2020

As we roll in to roast season we couldn’t wait to share with you just a few of our incredible pubs serving up the perfect Sunday. From double egg Yorkies, to slow cooked feather blade of beef, or the best end rack of lamb served up in style by a team who really know how to deliver that home away from home experience! We’re  finding out exactly what makes Sunday special at the Bear Cobham.

What’s the draw?

We believe the best Sunday roasts in Surrey – are found at the Bear Cobham. Overlooking the River mole, a short walk from the high street, we really are perfectly placed for a visit with the family. With a premium selection of refined roasts & sharers, Head Chef Jon leaves no roast potato unturned in his quest to be the best in the area! Our passionate team are on hand to ensure you are left wanting for nothing – other than an excuse to return! If you need anymore encouragement, see what our guests have to say… as we have pipped our local competition to the post to be the number one ranked place to eat and drink in Cobham on Tripadvisor

Host with the roast…

Ben has been welcoming our Sunday guests with a smile since we opened in March 2019. Looking after our many familiar faces and striving to grow our following of our foodie destination diners!

For Ben it is all about the perfect bottle of claret paired with our striploin of beef and Nuttall’s cauliflower cheese. Always on hand to talk you through the tasters of our reds – to ensure we find the one best suited to your drinking and dining tastes!

Chef’s recommendation?

With sharing at the heart of our Sundays – Jon recommends our half Best end rack of lamb, half beef feather blade combination, It’s the best of both worlds. You get those trimmed, marinated medium cutlets and mint jelly, alongside the low and slow melt in your mouth beef. All with a plethora of chicken fat roast potatoes, our seasonal vegetables and a pile of Yorkshires! All that’s left to decide is who’s playing mother and serving it all up?!

Who’s in the kitchen?

Michelin trained Head Chef Jon joined the Bear earlier this year, to continue to enhance our refined food offer and our love for Sundays. After being inspired by Nigel Howarth on the Great British Menu – For his 21st birthday Jon chose a visit Northcote Manor for dinner with his mum, over a trip away with his friends. Jon was in awe of the life-changing hospitality him and his mum received that night. “His mum was treat like a queen”. The experience instantly motivated Jon to want to be able make this level of service and food accessible by him through a career.

He introduced himself to the chefs and was given a tour of the kitchen. Hearing stories of their rise to the top and the work required to be successful, Jon’s passion shone through.

He began his apprenticeship at Northcote Manor the next day.

The rest is history.

After lunch?

Should you choose to leave us here at The Bear – there is nothing better than take  a stroll down to Painshill Park. The 18th Century gardens offer something for everyone in a tranquil setting away from the hustle and bustle of the high street. Enjoy a visit to the crystal grotto, the Temple of Bacchus, the Gothic Tower, or a simple stroll around the lake. This is the perfect place to burn off a family lunch!

How do we get there?

Cobham & Stoke d’Abernon railway station is just a 20 minute stroll from The Bear. Take a walk down by Cobham mill, through the leafy suburbs of the village due south of the pub to reach the station. There are also regular busses from the high street that connect us to Esher and Surbiton.
