Get ginspired: 5 steps to the perfect gin and tonic

23rd March 2019

Gin: a beautiful, versatile spirit with the ability to skilfully transform into an entirely different drinking experience with the simple addition, or removal of a botanical here and there.

Each gin flavour can be expertly complemented with the best possible mixer and garnish, to craft the ultimate taste explosion – and as if that isn’t impressive enough, the predominant ingredient of Juniper, has been used for more than 1,000 years as medicine to treat a variety of ailments, including arthritis – so, let’s raise a glass to your health!

1. The Glass

Did you know, the unique shape of the Copa de Balon glass allows you to experience the maximum flavour of your chosen drink combination? The beautiful, curved design has been lovingly crafted in order to trap the elegant aromas of your gin, whilst allowing plenty of room for ice, mixer and the very best garnishes.

It’s not just a drink – it’s a work of art!

2. The Ice

The sign of a good gin and tonic is a glass packed with ice. The more ice, the less dilution, meaning you can enjoy the exciting flavours of your favourite botanical beverage for longer. Of course, if you’re not a fan of your drink on the rocks, you can simply ask your server to miss this part out.

3. The Gin

Whether you are a botanic fanatic, or a juvenile in the world of the juniper, the vast collection of gin flavours on offer make it the perfect easy-to-drink tipple, whether it’s your first, or your fiftieth!

Explore your fruity side with Beefeater Pink, or try a taste of the traditional with a classic London Dry such as Bombay Sapphire. Whatever tickles your taste buds; there is surely a gin for everyone.

4. The Mixer

Firstly, you’ll want to make sure whatever mixer you select is served chilled, this means it will be fizzier, and stay fizzier for longer. The perfect mixer should bring your gin to life, complementing the existing ingredients, as well as the selected garnish. Why not ask your server for their recommendation? You may be surprised by what combinations work best!

5. The Garnish

Your perfect G&T can’t be complete until you’ve chosen your fresh garnish. It’s pretty common knowledge that you would serve Hendricks with a few slices of cucumber, however, did you know that Martin Miller’s Gin is best served with pink grapefruit and a sprig of fresh basil – yup, that’s right, basil in a drink!

Not only is this element aesthetically pleasing, it really is the guest of honour to the party on your palate! If you aren’t sure which garnish would best suit your drink, then ask your server, they will be more than happy to talk you through your possible options.

Top tip: for an extra pop of flavour, rub the garnish around the rim of the glass before dropping in.

Exciting!
