At Young’s we are proud to champion…

…local, sustainable British food throughout our pubs, and our partnership with Church Farms in Oxfordshire is no different.

Run by husband-and-wife team Tom and Chloe, they have been working tirelessly over the last 5 years to improve their herd of red deer through selective breeding and careful husbandry.

With 135 acres of farmland, 160 breeding hinds split into three herds, eight breeding stags, and up to 130+ calves and yearlings, they know and thing or two on what it takes to build and maintain a successful, environmentally conscious, and sustainable farm. They approach farming with a real focus on sustainability and welfare for the animals.

They have transformed what was once an area covered by dead trees and brambles into a flourishing, biodiverse farmland. With the help of a Countryside Stewardship grant they have planted more than 300 trees and 6000 metres of new hedge plants in as little as 3 years. This has led to a huge increase in diversity on the farm, encouraging new wildlife back to the area that previously would have struggled to thrive.

In order to rear the healthiest of animals, they ensure that there is constant crop rotation to enable a natural diet for their animals, growing all of their own forage on-site rather than buying and shipping it in from elsewhere. They are also a member of the government’s Sustainable Farming Incentive, meaning they receive funding for veterinary advice on how they can constantly improve the health and welfare of their livestock.

This commitment to sustainability and ensuring the natural environment and animals that surround their farm thrive is why we are so happy to have them as suppliers to our pubs around the country.
