4 Best London Hotel Beer Gardens to Lap Up The Sun

30th June 2021

A guest post written by Melanie Phipps, PR and Marketing Manager of Stay In a Pub.

We may not be blessed with the best weather in the UK, but one thing we do right is the great British beer garden. Whilst the return of indoor hospitality was warmly welcomed by many, enjoying a nice cold beer on a warm summer’s day in the garden remains an institutional summer pastime.

In fact, meeting at the pub on a sunny day has become such a staple in our culture, that some pubs have introduced advanced booking on outside seating. As soon as the sun comes out, we are eager to secure a table and lap up the sun whilst enjoying a cool glass of something or pint of ale in hand.

Whilst London might not be the most obvious destination to go when it is hot and sunny outside, anyone that knows the city well will be able to tell you that the capital comes alive (even more so!) during the warmer months.  The capital is full of places to soak up the rays, enjoy alfresco dining, bumble through outdoor markets, or simply meet friends in bustling beer gardens.

So without further ado we have rounded up some of our favourite beer gardens around the city and why it is worth paying them a visit this summer! From stylish to laid back, Youngs pubs have a wonderful mix of pubs in trendy locations, perfect for meeting friends and family al fresco!

The Windmill, Clapham

Surrounded by Clapham Common, offering around 200 acres of beautiful greenery, The Windmill is a quintessentially British pub with stylish interiors. Due to its picturesque setting, the pub’s newly refurbished beer garden is the perfect place to sit and watch the day go by. Outside there is a choice of both covered and heated tables, so if the weather takes a turn for the worst, you can still admire the outdoor setting, whilst being shielded from the rain!

As well as the pub’s everyday menu, The Windmill has its very own Burger Shack onsite, with a choice of chicken katsu, classic beef, and plant-based burgers!

The Dog & Fox, Wimbledon

Located in the heart of Wimbledon, The Dog and Fox is nestled between Wimbledon Park and Wimbledon Common. The pub is situated with all of Wimbledon’s chic cafes and boutique shops just outside the door. This dog-friendly pub has two outdoor spaces, where you can enjoy icy cold G&T’s and delicious food made from locally sourced British produce. The Dog and Fox makes for a great meeting place if you are planning to watch the tennis at Wimbledon, with the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, (home to the world famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships), located just over half a mile away.

The Alexander Pope, Twickenham

Set on the banks of the River Thames on Strawberry Hill, just moments away from the train station, The Alexander Pope boasts 32 boutique bedrooms, many with stunning river views. Their idyllic location is a popular spot for rugby fans during England home games, being just a short walk from Twickenham Stadium. The pub has a stylish and lively conservatory and outside terrace, making it a perfect spot for meeting friends on a warm summer’s day. There is also a stretch tent in the garden, so if it is a particularly hot day, you can take shelter in the shade!
